"I'm supposed to be doing this for my people."
Name: Stacey Little
Hometown: Cleveland, Ohio
Role: Organizer for the People’s Justice Project, Mentor for Voices of the Unheard
Favorite Basketball Player: Vince Carter
Clad in a Dos Hermanos baseball cap and a People’s Justice Project t-shirt, Stacey Little shows just how diverse the life of an organizer can be. Although her day job places her at the well-known food truck, her true work resides in what takes place after she clocks out. As an organizer for the People’s Justice Project and a Mentor for the youth in Voices of the Unheard, she wears many hats made of the same fabric: juvenile justice.
Growing up in a family affected by the justice system, Stacey’s involvement in juvenile justice was catalyzed by seeing members of her family and of the Black community unjustly incarcerated and brutalized by the justice system.
As a testimony to the softer side of the fight for justice, Stacey’s status as a mentor for the youth of Voices of the Unheard tells a different narrative than the usual one. Through one-on-one contact with youth directly affected by the juvenile justice system, Stacey changes the lives of those considered "criminals" and "delinquents."
Heeding the call for justice has placed Stacey on the front lines of protests, rallies, and other forms of demonstration around the city of Columbus. With phrases like “Justice Now!” and "Black Lives Matter!" as her battle cry, the vibrant organizer cuts through the plight of injustice one step at a time.
